We will hold our assessment day for this role on Wednesday 1st April at the Port of Grangemouth, where you will have the chance to meet some of the team and find out more about the role and the Graduate Programme. We will be in touch before then to let you know if you have been selected to attend.

What you will learn

As a Graduate within the Marine team, you will gain hands-on technical, practical, and commercial experience across the Conservancy function. The role focuses on supporting hydrographic surveys on the Rivers Forth and Tay, which are essential to safe navigation, dredging operations, and the maintenance of navigation aids across the ports. You will work closely with experienced marine professionals, take part in a rolling survey programme, and gain exposure to dredging campaigns, survey operations, and marine asset maintenance, all while developing a strong understanding of safety, teamwork, and effective communication.

  • Gain practical experience in hydrographic surveying across multiple ports
  • Learn how survey data supports dredging operations and safe navigation
  • Develop hands-on skills using hydrographic survey equipment aboard the survey vessel
  • Build knowledge of dredging operations, including planning and coordination with external contractors
  • Learn about the operation and maintenance of Aids to Navigation and their role in marine safety
  • Assist with tide gauge and weather station maintenance, calibration, and data archiving
  • Support vessel and equipment maintenance programmes
  • Develop an understanding of the technical, commercial, and regulatory aspects of the Conservancy and Marine functions
  • Learn the importance of safety culture and compliance with HSE and MCA requirements
  • Progress towards deputising for the Hydrographic Surveyor as your experience grows
