A clinically competent, registered, professional nurse who has demonstrated expertise in Acute Hospital Care. Effectively delivers care to the patients through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The Charge Nurse possesses leadership ability, critical thinking, adaptability to changing situations, collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, effective communication, and empowerment of team members to reach their full potential. This position ensures timely, accurate, and professional nursing care for patients and families.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Assist and support unit employees: MSP RNs, NST/NA’s
- Perform daily rounds in MSP and lead ongoing huddles to ensure smooth patient flow
- Collaborate with Manager/House Supervisor to obtain updated census and discuss admissions planning
- Maintain patient and organizational flow, admission and discharge coordination
- Coordinate with Critical Care Services and Surgical Services Charge Nurses for patient flow; provide utilization review/case management support for admission criteria daily
- Report patient status to the following shift; ensure rounds keep staff informed
- Staff the unit per guidelines, ensure meal breaks, and help reduce overtime
- Evaluate care effectiveness; promote safe, effective, timely care
- Assist/support staff with patient care delivery; oversee patient assignments
- Address patient/family issues and communicate with the Manager; utilize variance reporting
- Assess risk and maintain a safe department environment
- Complete quality reviews, regulatory observations/audits; contribute to quality improvements
- Provide immediate professional practice feedback and support peer development
- Collaborate for annual unit trainings and required education
- Respond to Trauma, STEMI, Stroke activations; complete daily/monthly checks (e.g., crash carts, accuchecks)
- Deliver high-quality patient care and advocate for family-centered care within policies and standards
- Lead the delivery of care through assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation per Minnesota Nurse Practice Act and physician orders
- Demonstrate ability to manage large volumes of priorities with critical thinking and respectful communication
- Lead and mentor change in the patient care team; adapt resources as needed
