We are currently seeking candidates to transport, by lowboy trailer, heavy construction equipment between job sites and haul asphalt in an 8‑axle live bottom trailer to our paving crews, in both Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo markets.
EssentialJob Duties
- Ability to safely operate various pieces of heavy equipment.
- Load and unload heavy equipment onto a lowboy trailer and secure the load for transportation.
- Transport heavy equipment between job sites.
- Transport asphalt in 8‑axle live bottom trailer from the asphalt plant site to the paving crew.
- Transport aggregates in 8‑axle live bottom trailer from the quarry/gravel pit to the asphalt plant site.
- Lubricate and perform general maintenance on the equipment.
- Other Requirements:
- Communicating and coordinating with dispatchers.
- Obeying and following all applicable traffic laws, rules, and regulations.
- Securing cargo, and properly arranging and balancing it within the vehicle.
- Maintaining a detailed log of working hours in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Performing pre and post‑trip vehicle inspection reports.
- Reporting any defects, accidents, or violations.
- Ensuring any mechanical issues with the vehicle are corrected before driving.
- Verifying loads for accuracy and proper information on tickets.
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co‑workers, supervisors, customers, and the general public at all times.
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
- Report to the assigned job site and be ready to begin work at the designated start time.
- Strict adherence to all Safety Practices & Procedures.
- Strict adherence to all company policies and procedures as outlined in the book of company policies.
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co‑workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
- Individuals are required to wear PPE, steel-toed footwear, safety glasses.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Previous experience operating heavy equipment is a must.
- CDL – Class A License.
- Clean driving record.
- At least 1 year of driving experience.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- The ability to pass a pre‑employment screening and testing.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements, procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) policies.
- Language
Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to hear and speak effectively to customers or employees of the organization. - Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret graphs. - Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form is required to complete tasks in an efficient and safe manner. - Vision: color, close, and distance vision, as well as peripheral, depth, and focus perception vision.
- Work can be performed at heights, requiring the employee to climb and balance in ladders, scaffolds and stair towers, often with narrow steps and passageways.
- Position requires walking, standing, sitting, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, crawling, crouching, and lifting.
