Position Overview

Equipment Operator is responsible for controlling and maintaining heavy machinery and equipment, ensuring safety and efficiency on construction sites.

Responsibilities
  • Ability to safely, accurately, and efficiently help operate various pieces of heavy equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance: clean up around the job site and surrounding area; conduct regular inspections and maintenance on machinery to ensure safe operating conditions; lubricate and perform general maintenance.
  • Follow safety protocols: adhere to directions, safety regulations, and workplace standards to minimize risks and promote a safe working environment; obey traffic laws; participate in weekly safety meetings (Tool Box Talks).
  • Load and unload materials: assist in loading and unloading materials or equipment as required.
  • Report issues: promptly report equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, and incidents to supervisors; report defects, accidents, or violations.
  • Collaborate with team members: work closely with other crew members to complete tasks efficiently and on schedule; maintain a professional and courteous attitude with co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
Other Requirements
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Report to the assigned job site in proper work attire ready to begin at the designated start time.
  • Wear PPE and steel-toed footwear; safety glasses as required.
Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Previous experience helping operate or working around heavy equipment
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • CDL preferred
  • The ability to pass pre-employment screening and testing
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements, procedures and PPE policies
Work Environment
  • Work is outdoors, on a job site, in extreme weather conditions and for extended hours.
  • Exposure to noise, dirt, grease, and dust typical of construction projects.
  • Regular work with or near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
  • Exposure to substances common on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel, asphalt and concrete.
  • Work near moving parts, on uneven surfaces and in varying weather; exposure to heat or cold and airborne particles.
  • Occasional exposure to vibration; noise levels may require hearing protection at some facilities.
Physical Demands
  • Language: reading and interpreting safety rules and manuals; ability to write routine reports; effective communication.
  • Mathematical: basic arithmetic, rate, ratio, percent, and ability to interpret graphs.
  • Reasoning: solve practical problems and follow multiple types of instructions.
  • Vision: color, distance, peripheral, depth, and focus perception.
  • Physical abilities: work at heights, climb and balance on ladders or scaffolds; walk, stand, sit, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift up to 50 lbs without assistance.
  • Ability to operate equipment under extreme temperatures and flexible scheduling based on project needs.
