Overview
The Kent County Juvenile Detention Center is hiring for a part-time Cook I. The successful candidate will prepare one or more parts of large meals for residents and staff at the 98-bed, secure Juvenile Detention Center.
Responsibilities- Prepare meals as part of large-scale meal service for residents and staff, following weekly hot meal menus provided by supervisors.
- Prepare special diets for individuals under instructions from supervisors.
- Serve meals, put away stock, and clean the kitchen, including equipment.
- Must obtain Serv Safe certification within the 9-month probationary period.
- Typical work hours are 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., three shifts per week, with every other weekend work.
- Graduation from high school or its equivalent.
- Ability to read and comprehend recipes and other instructions, material safety data sheets, and other safety information required for proper performance.
- Ability to perform basic math to calculate accurate food measurements.
- Prior experience in cooking and preparing food on a large-scale basis is preferred.
- Must not require physical contact with residents housed within Juvenile Detention.
