Job Description: We are seeking 2-3 undergraduate technicians to help collect and process a variety of research samples in the Sullivan Lab. Undergrad technicians will work closely with graduate students and other lab members to assist on research projects broadly exploring the role of seed dispersal on prairie plant composition at multiple sites across the Midwest. Part of the work will be field data collection trips that are about 1-2 weeks at a time and the other part will be in-lab processing of seed, soil, and biomass samples.
Position has the possibility to extend into Fall 2026. Freshmen and Sophomores are encouraged to apply. Hourly rate is $14+/hour depending on experience. We are looking for someone who can work 40 hours per week in Summer: ~May 4, 2026 – August 28, 2026 (dates are flexible, and time off for vacations is encouraged as long as it is coordinated around field work).
Requirements:
- Must be able to do detailed, precise, and repetitive lab work
- Must be able to spend long days in the field (up to 10 hours) and endure a variety of outside conditions (including heat and light rain)
- Must occasionally be able to travel in periods of ~1-2 weeks at a time
- Must be able to hike ~1 mile while carrying ~20 lbs
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and be comfortable driving
- Must be able to communicate well with and other lab members
