About This Unit

6 North is a 38‑bed cardiovascular unit that specializes in caring for adult patients with heart failure, cardiac dysrhythmias, newly implanted pacemakers and defibrillators, LVAD readmissions, pulmonary hypertension, and cardiac conditions requiring medical treatment. Most patients receive continuous telemetry monitoring. Care is provided 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.

Individuals would want to work on this unit due to the large variety of cardiovascular and progressive care experiences that allow for a robust skill set. If they were to transfer to another unit, they would gain time management and proficiency in managing patients with complex conditions. Skills you can gain include bipap, respiratory management, pulmonary hypertension treatments, management of multiple IV drips, heart failure management, and telemetry monitoring.

The culture of this unit is teamwork and support. Staff works closely with physicians and other health‑care providers and services to provide optimal inpatient care. The unit emphasizes patient education and community resources. Staff within this unit have been recipients of the Daisy Award for nursing.

Scope of Work

The RN, within the ANA scope of practice, uses the nursing process to provide professional care by incorporating patient‑family‑centered principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge. The RN provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures and recognizes the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on outcomes. The RN partners with and utilizes patient/family input and goals in planning the plan of care and develops teaching strategies for patient/family;

documents education and learning appropriately in the health record.

Qualifications
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (required).
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (required) within 5 years of graduation.
  • Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days.
  • AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required within 6 months.
  • 6 + months of inpatient RN experience preferred.
