Trinity Health Grand Rapids Hospital, 3 Lakes is a 32-bed all private acute care unit that serves patients 65 & older. This high-acuity unit regularly has patients on telemetry, cardiac drips, high‑flow oxygen, Bi‑PAP, etc. Under the general direction of the Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse provides direct patient care to all ages of patients and assists the RN in performing and coordinating direct patient care for a specific group of patients.
Full access to medications is given to the incumbent of this position as the job responsibilities include handling, preparing, and administering medications within the LPN scope of practice and job description. Full time - Shift: Night Shift (7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.)
- Assist under the direction of the RN with the initial and ongoing assessment of assigned patients through observation and data collection, as delegated by the RN.
- Perform activities delegated by the RN and/or Physician, including but not limited to:
- Venipuncture for specimens including blood cultures.
- Initiate and discontinue peripheral intravenous catheters.
- Insert and discontinue indwelling and intermittent clean urinary catheterization.
- Obtain laboratory specimens and perform basic laboratory procedures, e.g., point‑of‑care blood glucose, stool sampling, sputum collection.
- Perform basic bedside care and selected procedures under RN supervision: 12‑lead ECG, dressing changes, routine respiratory care (incentive spirometry, pulse oximetry, nebulizer), vital signs, recognition and reporting of life‑threatening conditions.
- Administer physician‑directed treatments such as eye irrigation.
- Perform other unit‑specific activities such as activities of daily living appropriate to the patient's condition.
- Work full time on 3 – 12‑hour shifts.
- High school diploma or equivalent and graduate of an accredited LPN program.
- Current Practical Nurse license in the State of Michigan.
- CPR or BLS certified.
