Psych RN - Weekend

Responsibilities

Forest View Hospital, located just seven miles southeast of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, is a private 108‑bed psychiatric facility that serves children, adolescents and adults. We are licensed by the State of Michigan, fully accredited by The Joint Commission and bring more than 45 years of experience to the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of behavioral health problems. As a part of our continued success and growth, we are seeking qualified applicants for a Psych RN – Weekend Days shift.

The Psych RN provides nursing care to patients on each clinical unit as assigned, utilizing the nursing process. The patient population serviced includes both adolescents and adults. Patients are hospitalized for a broad variety of psychiatric disorders, including mood, anxiety and thought disorders, and may also require treatment in specialty programming for trauma, eating disorders and dual diagnosis (both substance abuse and psychiatric issues).

This position actively supports, promotes and works to fulfill the Mission, Vision and Values of Forest View Hospital through our Service Excellence program.

This is a part‑time, 24‑hour‑a‑week position (12‑hour shifts – 7:00 am–7:30 pm).

• Promotes a warm and welcoming environment when paired with newly hired RNs, providing training, guidance and support that is consistent with patient care, safety standards and policy and procedure; responds to questions respectfully and reports concerns promptly when identified.
• Acts as backup point of contact for direction of other unit staff members when Charge is unavailable.
• Provides leadership to other personnel in crisis behavioral management.
• Uses the nursing process to develop an initial nursing treatment plan for each admitted patient.
• Competent in assessing, planning and delivering care for patients with co‑occurring disorders, eating disorders and trauma backgrounds.
• Directs and participates with other personnel in maintaining a safe and therapeutic milieu.
• Assists with discharge planning and works with patients at the time of discharge.

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
• 6–12 months of previous psych nursing experience preferred, demonstrating a strong understanding of the unit they will be assisting in leadership.
• Current RN licensure in the state of Michigan.
• Demonstrates clinical competency in providing general nursing care; basic understanding of psychiatric nursing theory.
• CPR/Handle With Care certification preferred.
