! This position focuses on conducting crucial, one-time, non-treatment disability compensation and pension examinations
, directly helping Veterans secure the benefits they ve earned for their service-connected health issues. You ll leverage your clinical expertise in an investigative capacity, reviewing medical history, performing comprehensive exams, and documenting findings electronically.
- Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
- Remote charting is available
. You have the flexibility to leave the site up to 2 hours early to complete documentation from home if no further Veteran exams are scheduled for the day. - Medical examinations average 1.5-3 hours (can be up to 8 hours), with a caseload of 1 Veteran or 4-6 Veterans per day
, depending on the number of Disability Benefit Questionnaires (DBQs).

As a Nurse Practitioner, your primary responsibility will be to perform either Disability Questionnaires (DBQs) or Separation Health Assessment (SHA) Examinations
. This includes:
- Obtaining a thorough history and physical, performing both comprehensive and focused examinations.
- Conducting a complete review of medical records on a cloud-based EHR, including abstracts highlighting pertinent history.
- Ordering and interpreting labs and other diagnostics, and ordering necessary ancillary services based on physical examinations.
- Diagnosing and providing medical opinion decisions based on physical examinations on Veteran claims.
- Accurately capturing all responses and findings using a web-based examination form, ensuring charts are submitted within 24 hours.
- Completing all required documentation electronically for submission to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs. This is a charting/investigative position, not involved in direct patient treatment.
- Active and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner (NP) license in Michigan (MI).
- Strong attention to detail and exceptional documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage your time effectively, and adhere to VA guidelines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially when interacting with Veterans.
- Proficiency with web-based examination forms and electronic medical records.
