Position Summary

The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of production facility equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the facility.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform floor care, including stripping, waxing, and buffing.
  • Implement inspections and repairs required by the preventative maintenance program and as requested by the Environmental Services Manager (EVS Manager) and facility staff.
  • Check and clean exhaust ventilators, heating and air conditioning units, and respective filters and air handlers.
  • Replace light bulbs, hang pictures, and move furniture as required.
  • Perform touch up and redecorating tasks, such as patching and painting, as required.
  • Perform grounds maintenance for building courtyards. Keep sidewalks and entrances free of ice and snow in inclement weather.
  • Check the emergency power generator system daily and test system weekly and monthly.
  • Assure adequacy and completeness of all repairs.
  • Maintain sanitation and safety standards. Keep work area a clean, safe, and orderly manner. Maintain constant supervision of hazardous equipment and keep tools in locked storage areas.
  • Conduct regular environmental and maintenance rounds of the entire building, grounds, and systems to evaluate needs and ensure sanitation, safety and maintenance.
  • Accompany EVS Manager and regulatory officials, as well as insurance inspectors, on tours of the building and grounds, and assure compliance with all regulations and requirements.
  • Arrange for and supervise appropriate inspections and maintenance of all life support systems and maintain disaster preparedness systems.
  • Conduct monthly fire drills and document results.
  • Adhere to Standard Precautions and OSHA compliance.
  • Perform periodic security equipment inspections to assure compliance with standards. Consult with the EVS Manager concerning security matters.
  • Adhere to department operational manuals, preventative maintenance plans and schedules, operational manuals from the contractor regarding systems and equipment, infection control manual, and disaster preparedness manual.
  • Attend staff and department meetings, and in-service trainings as required.
  • Keep the EVS Manager informed of pertinent events or equipment concerns. Keep the nursing staff updated on patient equipment repair status.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Must be able to assist in emergency and evacuation procedures.
  • Adheres to patient rights and reports suspected deviations to Charge Nurse, Director of Nursing, or Administrator.
  • Perform other duties and functions as required.
Required/Desired Qualifications Education, Training, and Experience
  • High School Graduate or equivalent required.
  • Three years of experience in comparable position preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
Specific skills, knowledge, and abilities
  • Must have working knowledge of carpentry, preventative maintenance and ground maintenance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of building codes, regulations and standards applicable to Facility operations.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems, plumbing, refrigeration and heating preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge is required.

Special Requirements
  • Must have eye/hand coordination sufficient to use small and large tools and machinery, hammer and nail, power drill and screw driver.
  • Tolerate frequent exposure to blood, body tissues, and fluids with occasional exposure to hazardous materials and infectious diseases. As well as, frequent exposure to chemicals and latex, and plastic materials used for personal protective equipment.
  • Manual dexterity required to operate modern office equipment.
  • Ability to travel as needed or assigned.
