Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Building Maintenance

This is an hourly based union position starting out at $17.63.
This position will start training on 1st shift from 7am - 3:30pm. Working five days a week, with one weekend day. After training is completed, you will move to 2-3 afternoon shifts with the other days remaining on the 1st shift schedule.
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A FACILITIES MAINTENANCE I AT JBZThe Facilities Maintenance I provides semiskilled labor required for the care, cleaning and general maintenance of grounds, including buildings, fixtures, furnishings, and other physical features. This person will perform preventive maintenance for mechanical, plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems and components thereof, including, but not limited to, lubrication of moving mechanical parts, filter changes, and repair of ballasts in light fixtures.

Qualifications For a Facilities Maintenance i- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, material safety data sheets and other safety information required for proper performance of the work.
- Working knowledge of preventive maintenance practices for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems and components.
- Operating knowledge of manual and small power tools commonly used in carpentry, maintenance construction, grounds, and custodial maintenance trades.
- Ability to operate a variety of electric and gas-powered driven maintenance equipment.
- Ability to gather and analyze data as related to use of; or troubleshooting of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Sufficient mathematical ability to mix cleaning chemicals, and other compounds in proper proportions.
- Ability to interact positively and appropriately with coworkers, supervisors, managers, Zoo guests, contractors, concessionaires, and members of the public with diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Ability to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED.
High school diploma or GED combined with building and grounds maintenance experience.
WORK ENVIRONMENT- Ability to interact positively and appropriately with coworkers, supervisors, managers, Zoo patrons, contractors, concessionaires, and members of the general public with diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Incumbent will work in various environments both inside and outside and may occasionally be exposed to inclement weather; pollen, mold, dust, dirt, and other airborne contaminants; and temperature variations.
- While performing the essential functions of this position the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical hazards; noxious fumes; dust, dirt, animal dander, zoonotic pathogens, and other airborne particulates; blood borne pathogens; cleaning compounds; solvents; detergents; noise; and other hazards.
