We are seeking a talented and experienced Legal Assistant to join one of our clients in Grand Rapids, MI. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled legal support professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and excels at meeting the demands of a busy practice group.

As a Legal Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting attorneys and paralegals by producing polished, error-free, and timely work. You will manage a wide range of responsibilities including client communication, document preparation, billing, and file maintenance—all while leveraging advanced legal technology.

Litigation experience as a legal assistant is required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Draft, update, proofread, format pleadings, agreements, and other legal documents for court filings, client delivery, or internal use.
  • Track and communicate key dates to attorneys and stakeholders, ensuring timely task completion.
  • Maintain organized and professional client files and case records, making information easily accessible.
  • Work effectively with firm systems, including document management software, Office 365, Adobe Acrobat, and time/billing tools.
  • Open new client matters, coordinate conflict checks, and ensure proper closure of matters following firm protocols.
  • Manage attorney calendars, schedule appointments, draft routine correspondence, process incoming mail, and oversee electronic filing.
  • Review, proofread, and edit pre-bills according to attorney instructions.
  • Provide support to other legal assistants and assist with additional administrative tasks as needed.
Requirements
  • Education:

    High school diploma required;
    Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience:

    Minimum of two years of litigation experience in a law firm or in‑house legal department.
Skills
  • Solid understanding of legal terminology and grammar.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word with a willingness to enhance technical skills.
  • Strong proofreading and editing abilities.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication (oral and written) and time management skills.
  • Must maintain confidentiality, demonstrate reliability, and provide excellent client service.
  • Ability to interact effectively with attorneys, clients, and staff.
  • Skilled at managing and prioritizing tasks in a fast‑paced legal environment to ensure timely and accurate completion of assignments.
