. The Enterprise Communications Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for supporting, implementing, and optimizing critical IT infrastructure and Voice Systems.
Job Classification & Benefits: E4. Minimum starting wage of $38.91 per hour. Comprehensive benefits package including medical, vision, dental, life insurance, generous employer retirement contributions, wellness resources and tuition waiver effective on date of hire.
Essential Functions- Supporting, implementing, and optimizing IT infrastructure and communication services.
- Work with management, end users, architects, engineers and vendors on application, design and installation of infrastructure and communication services.
- Install, configure, maintain, support, and optimize all university phone systems.
- Install, maintain, and repair university cable plant, including work in tunnels and on ladders.
- Determine appropriate architecture, topology and transmission requirements for voice and data cabling systems based on best‑practice guidelines and standards.
- Research, evaluate, and recommend new products, practices, and procedures for data and communications infrastructure.
- Evaluate, prioritize, and implement system modifications and upgrades.
- Install, configure, and maintain UPS equipment in data‑comm equipment rooms.
- Work through ticketing system incident, request, and change management processes.
- Assist with day‑to‑day network operations and incident response.
- Document work performed.
- Maintain accurate records of hardware settings, equipment locations, system drawings, and cable records.
- Maintain skill level and knowledge of developments in the field through training, manuals, and technical publications.
- May supervise student employees and interns.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Deploy UCaaS physical devices and software clients to end‑users.
- Assist with installation and maintenance of network switches, routers, and Wi‑Fi equipment.
- Provide technical assistance and training to users.
- Assist with installation and removal of servers within datacenters.
- High school graduate.
- Minimum of four years’ experience in comprehensive design, installation, and support of communication infrastructure.
- Working knowledge of IP addressing and routing.
- Working knowledge of personal computers.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to operate office equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to provide quality customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain satisfactory work performance and attendance records.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and coordinate activities of others.
- Physical ability to lift equipment, lay wires in tunnels, and perform other related duties.
- Bachelor's degree.
- Substantial experience in construction of wire plant for voice, data, and fiber.
- Experience with IP Telephony and UCaaS products.
- Experience configuring wireless devices.
- Experience with Zoom.
Receives minimal supervision and functions with considerable independence. May hire, train, schedule, and coordinate the work of student employees and act as lead worker to PSS staff members within the department.
