Overview
We have an outstanding career opportunity for a Senior HR Generalist to join a leading Company located in the Grand Rapids, MI surrounding area.
Responsibilities- Lead Full-Cycle Talent Acquisition:
Manage recruitment from sourcing through onboarding, ensuring a strong candidate and hiring-manager experience. - Own the Employee Lifecycle:
Coordinate onboarding, offboarding, documentation, compliance, and record management across all employee touchpoints. - Oversee Payroll & Benefits Administration:
Manage weekly and bi-weekly payroll processes and collaborate with benefit carriers and brokers to administer medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, and retirement programs. - Serve as the Primary HR Partner:
Provide guidance to employees and leadership on employee relations, leave of absence, payroll questions, benefits, training, and workplace policies. - Maintain Compliance &
Risk Management:
Manage workers compensation claims, injury reporting, FMLA, COBRA processing, and ensure adherence to employment laws and internal standards. - Develop & Maintain Policies and Procedures:
Assist in drafting, updating, and executing HR policies that align with business needs and regulatory requirements. - Maintain HR Systems & Organizational Data:
Ensure employee files, HRIS data, and organizational charts remain accurate, secure, and audit-ready. - Act as a Culture Steward:
Foster a professional, approachable, and trustworthy HR presence that employees feel comfortable engaging with while maintaining strict confidentiality at all times. - Operate Independently with Confidence:
Function as the primary on-site HR resource, proactively solving problems, learning new processes, and making sound decisions with minimal day-to-day oversight.
- 10-15 years of progressive HR or management experience, including leadership responsibility and direct employee support.
- Experience managing or supporting a workforce population (approximately 35-50 employees), even if not supervising direct reports.
- Bachelor s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent professional experience.
- Hands-on payroll experience strongly preferred - ADP experience is highly desirable.
- HRIS experience required; ADP preferred, but strong proficiency in systems such as Paycor, Paychex, Workday, or similar platforms is equally valued.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Exceptional confidentiality and discretion - trusted with sensitive information and employee matters.
- Personable, approachable, and emotionally intelligent; able to separate emotion from decision-making and not take workplace issues personally.
- Highly organized with strong analytical and time-management skills.
- Customer-service mindset with the ability to build trust at all organizational levels.
- Adaptable and comfortable in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities.
- A high degree of self-sufficiency and initiative.
- Comfortable learning new systems, regulations, and processes independently.
- Resourceful problem-solver who embraces trial-and-error learning and continuous improvement.
- Confident operating as a standalone HR presence while still collaborating remotely with leadership or external partners when needed.
