HR Generalist (Temporary).
Location:
Grand Rapids MI.
Schedule:
Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Temp: 3 months with a chance to extend. Pay Rate: $28.00 - $31.00/hour. Our team is partnering with a growing organization to identify a hands-on HR Generalist to support their Grand Rapids-area branch on a temporary basis. This is an on-site HR opportunity, ideal for someone who can step in with minimal direction after initial training and confidently manage day-to-day HR operations.
The HR Generalist will support approximately 400 associates across the Midwest region, including onsite employees and field-based production and operations teams. This role will report directly to site leadership and partner closely with HR Business Partners during the onboarding period.
- Serve as the primary HR point of contact for employees and managers at the site
- Support the full employee lifecycle, including new hire processing, onboarding, orientation, transfers, and employment separations
- Partner with managers on onboarding, performance management, and employee relations matters
- Respond to employee inquiries related to HR policies, procedures, and practices
- Coach managers through disciplinary processes and performance-related conversations
- Manage and resolve employee relations issues, including investigations and corrective actions
- Support employee terminations and ensure documentation and processes are handled appropriately
- Conduct regular check-ins with leadership to support business and people needs
- Ensure HR policies, practices, and employment laws are followed consistently
- Maintain accurate records and utilize HR systems and Microsoft Office tools effectively
- 2-3+ years of HR Generalist or HR Business Partner-level experience
- Ability to work independently in a stand-alone HR role with limited supervision
- Strong employee relations experience, including disciplinary processes and investigations
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and follow-through
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Proven ability to provide guidance and coaching to managers
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems
- Working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field (or equivalent experience)
- HR certification (SHRM or HRCI) preferred
- Experience supporting hourly, production, or operations-based work forces
- Prior experience in a multi-site or field-employee environment
