Overview
Routinely performs all the duties of a home infusion pharmacist but also allocates a large portion of their work time to a specialty area within the pharmacy that provides direct support or training for other staff. This pharmacist manages IV patient therapies both at home and in the infusion suite and often works odd schedules, including off‑site meetings, on‑call time, weekend shifts, and extra hours to maintain software systems while minimizing disruptions to department operations.

Requirements- Five-year bachelor of science degree in pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy.
- Specialist in one or more areas of pharmacy such as pharmacy software maintenance, hardware upkeep, training of pharmacy personnel, or communication with outside technical departments (TIS).
Preferred, but not mandatory, advanced training in the pharmacist’s specialty area.
Credentials / Licensure- Minimum:
Current registered pharmacist license and controlled substance license issued by the Michigan State Board of Pharmacy. - Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification may be required at the discretion of the manager.

Five or more years of work in a hospital or specialty pharmacy.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Knowledge of USP 797 and USP 800.
- Excellent written or verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with standard desktop and Windows‑based computer systems, including email, e‑learning, intranet, and computer navigation.
Ability to use other software required to perform essential functions.
Physical / MentalRepetitive use of hands and fingers; may require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs.) and stooping or kneeling. Sitting, walking, or standing for long periods (4–8 hours) is often necessary. Must be able to physically operate the equipment for the job.
Responsibilities- Review, prepare, and dispense medication orders per physician order or prescription according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Ensure safe, appropriate, cost‑effective medication therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Contribute to the quality and effective operation of the department.
- Provide clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners, suggesting appropriate, cost‑effective therapeutic alternatives to physicians, as needed.
- Provide drug information and counseling to patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in the training, education, precepting, and evaluation of pharmacy students and/or residents as assigned.
- Provide work direction to pharmacy support personnel, verify the daily activities of pharmacy technicians.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
