Child Life Specialist - Procedural Services

- Day Shift
- Education – Minimum:
Bachelor’s degree in human development and family studies, child and family studies or a related field. - Credentials/Licensure – Minimum:
Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS). - Experience – Minimum:
Completed Clinical Internship with a minimum of 600 hours. Preferred:
Clinical experience in a healthcare setting.
- Supporting children and families by using a variety of tactics to help the patient better understand a process, procedure, or other element of their medical stay.
- Creating developmentally appropriate strategies to minimize trauma and increase understanding of a medical diagnosis or process through treatment plans using therapeutic play, education, preparation, and activities.
- Advocating for the needs of children and their families on an individualized basis.
- Supporting therapeutic strategies for those with cognitive impairments or developmental delays to provide equitable care.
- Actively participating as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, integrating plans to promote optimal patient care that is family‑centered, developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive, and psychosocially mindful.
- Reviewing and assisting with care plans for identified patients requiring additional resources during their hospital stay.
- Providing information, support, and guidance to parents and family members.
- Non‑direct patient care tasks, such as presenting learning opportunities to members of the health‑care team to educate on best approaches, appropriate interventions, and communication strategies.
- Being a resource for Trinity Health Grand Rapids to help any pediatric or other patient that would benefit from Child Life Services.
- Coordinating education and maintaining therapeutic supplies.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
- Magnet‑designated facility with active shared decision‑making councils.
