WhatWill You Do?
As a Recreational Therapist at Pine Rest, you’ll work as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team, utilizing clinical skills from your training in expressive arts therapies, recreation or occupational therapy and psycho‑educational interventions. You’ll plan, organize and implement a program of ancillary services, assess patients’ capabilities, needs, interests and goals, and design individualized treatment programs aligned with team goals. Excellent customer service, enthusiasm for the program, and a commitment to building belonging and empowerment are essential.
PrincipalDuties And Responsibilities
- Assess patient care needs and develop/implement treatment plans in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, continually reassessing according to evolving needs.
- Plan and participate in milieu programming: teaching, skill building, and therapy groups.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with assigned patients.
- Provide input to interdisciplinary treatment plans and participate in rounds/treatment‑planning meetings.
- Monitor for and report risks to patient safety that could lead to adverse outcomes.
- Utilize financial processes to conserve resources.
- Document and report all required information per established policies and procedures.
- Create a client‑friendly environment by following quality improvement standards and maintaining professionalism.
- Actively participate in safety management, crisis intervention and prevention, including monitoring, assessment, de‑escalation, implementation of restrictive measures, and emergency psychiatric and medical care.
- Work in various clinical settings with diverse patient populations.
- Assist in monitoring documentation accuracy and completeness, conducting chart reviews as needed.
- Lead performance‑improvement activities, serve on committees, and assist in department performance appraisals.
- Take an active role in staff training needs: orientation, competency assessment, ongoing training, and positive communication.
- Collaborate in follow‑up with disciplinary action.
- May conduct functional assessments for patients/clients per doctor’s order.
- Collaborate with AT Clinical Manager regarding internships and other departmental activities.
- Bachelor’s in Recreational Therapy required;
Master’s preferred. - Certification as CTRS.
- Minimum of three months of relevant psychiatric/medical/clinical experience for entry‑level planning and implementation of therapeutic activities.
- Knowledge of current therapy principles, expressive arts activities, recreation therapies, psycho‑educational interventions, and group counseling techniques to the level normally acquired through a degree and clinical training at a university‑affiliated hospital.
- On‑the‑job training or formal education in application of therapy/counseling principles and practices for patients with various psychiatric/medical conditions.
