Emergency Medical Technician – Life EMS Ambulance, Inc.

Full‑time. Pay: $20.75/hr – $24.75/hr for a 42‑hour week. Pay varies with experience.

SUMMARY

Responsible for safely transporting patients and providing basic life support procedures that follow federal, state, and local laws, statutes, and regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure daily customer happiness
  • Deliver patient care to the level of your licensure
  • Maintain the med unit or station in a stocked, clean, and orderly condition at the start and end of each shift
  • Examine patients and report medical conditions as directed by medical control and company policies
  • Prepare medical reports and invoices of runs made by the crew
  • Attend required training sessions to maintain certification
  • Clean vehicle and patient care compartments; keep stations neat
  • Report vehicle and equipment malfunctions to the Control Center or supervisor
  • Perform routine maintenance checks on vehicle and equipment with medic unit or station checklist
  • Other roles and responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license with a good driving record
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current Emergency Medical Technician license issued by Michigan
  • Interviewed by Life EMS designee
  • Pass all Life EMS pre‑employment requirements as outlined on the Conditional Offer of Employment
  • Current BLS card
  • Current trauma or pediatric card (based on work location)
  • Ability to prepare detailed reports
  • Basic typing skills and computer operation knowledge
  • Positive, respectful behavior in dealing with people at all levels
  • Exceptional knowledge of emergency care procedures
  • Exceptional knowledge of common physical illnesses, symptoms, and medical terminology
  • Exceptional knowledge of city streets and traffic regulations
  • Ability to think and act quickly in stressful situations
  • Skill in applying emergency care procedures and equipment
  • Maintain a good working relationship with fellow crew members, police, fire and the general public
  • COVID‑19 vaccination highly encouraged
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.
  • Specific vision: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.
  • Sit and drive using frequent wrist motions and forward reaches.
  • Walk, climb stairs, carry medical equipment up to 70 lbs.
  • Push and pull wheelchairs while ascending or descending stairs with a 130 lb patient.
  • Lift, push and pull stretcher to load and unload a 150 lb patient (with assistance of one other paramedic).
  • Lift and transfer loads up to 150 lb (with assistance of one other paramedic).
  • Climb ladder and crawl.
  • Lifting one end of stretcher weighing 105 lbs from chest to overhead (48‑66”).
  • Ability to wear particulate respirator; facial hair, except a mustache to the corners of the mouth, is prohibited.
  • Shift work outside requested availability, including days, nights, weekends, or holidays.
