Histotechnician Traveler

Job DescriptionThis is a Histotechnician traveler role responsible for producing high quality slides for microscopic evaluation under general supervision. The position supports slide preparation staining embedding microtomy and quality procedures in accordance with laboratory and regulatory standards.
ResponsibilitiesPerform routine and non routine slide preparation following departmental procedures.
Process paperwork for accessioning and reporting.
Ensure proper tissue processing and specimen handling.
Perform embedding and microtomy for approved specimen types as directed by the Histology Supervisor or Manager.
Prepare slides for routine Hematoxylin and Eosin staining.
Perform manual or automated cover slipping.
Perform special stains as assigned under supervision.
Conduct routine maintenance and cleaning of non complex equipment.
File completed blocks and slides accurately.
Document all quality control activities and follow all quality assurance standards.
Ensure full compliance with CLIA CAP federal and local regulations.
Maintain a clean organized and safe work area.
Follow laboratory policies and procedures for quality performance and reporting.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Associate degree in a laboratory science or Medical Technology with at least one year of relevant experience in the last ten years
OR
High school diploma or equivalent with five years full time Histotechnician experience in the last ten years
HT ASCP or ASCP eligible is accepted
OR
Five years of full time Histotechnician experience within the last ten years
Understanding of routine histology methods including embedding microtomy staining and tissue preparation
Knowledge of quality control procedures and documentation
Ability to work within multiple laboratory computer systems
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage several tasks at once
Ability to interact professionally with internal departments
Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality
Monday-Friday 9 pm-5:30 am
Forty hours per week
Working every third weekend
Six week rotating schedule
