Position OverviewThe Specialty Retail Pharmacy Technician supports the dispensing and management of specialty medications with an emphasis on oncology and other complex disease states. This role is responsible for providing high-quality patient care, exceptional customer service, and accurate processing of physician orders. The technician works closely with pharmacists, oncology clinics, insurance providers, and patients to ensure timely access to specialty therapies while adhering to regulating, safety, and payer requirements.
QualificationsEducation
- High School Diploma, some college preferred with an aptitude for mathematical calculation.
- Michigan Pharmacy Technician Licensure required
- Retail pharmacy, claim reconciliation or accounting background helpful.
Monday - Friday 8:30am-5:00pm
Primary Duties And Responsibilities- Accurately enter and process physician orders in QS-1
NRX environment, including specialty and oncology medications. - Review patient profiles for allergies, duplicate therapies, prior authorizations, and potential drug interactions for pharmacist review.
- Assist in the coordination of oncology specialty medications, including oral oncolytics, supportive care therapies, and limited distribution drugs.
- Communicate with oncology clinics, infusion centers, and provider offices to obtain prescriptions, refills, clarifications, and required documentation.
- Maintain detailed and compliant documentation related to specialty prescriptions, payer requirements, and patient communications.
- Provide high-touch customer service to patients and caregivers, including education on refill processes and delivery coordination
- Handle inbound and outbound telephone communications to resolve patient, provider, and insurance-related inquiries efficiently.
- Assist with inventory control, including ordering, receiving, tracking lot numbers, expiration dates, and maintaining cold-chain requirements when applicable.
- Ensure accurate handling of pharmaceuticals, packing slips, invoices, and specialty medication storage standards.
- Enter customer purchases into the Point-of-Sale system and ensure claims are filed correctly.
- Accept and process telephone and written prescriptions in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Support adherence programs, refill reminders, and follow-up activities as directed.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and adhere to all pharmacy policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support pharmacy operations.
