About This Unit: 7
MHC is a 46‑bed unit that cares for cardio‑thoracic patients after surgery. We specialize in both cardiac, pulmonary and transplant care. Our primary patient populations are post‑operative coronary artery bypass (CABG), cardiac valve surgeries, lung surgeries, heart & lung transplant, and VAD patients (an artificial heart pump). We admit post‑surgical patients on day of surgery, after the cardiovascular recovery unit or from the Cardiothoracic ICU (CTCC) depending on their procedure and clinical needs.
If a patient needs intensive care, they are transferred to CTCC and return to us when their condition has stabilized. Our patients are very complex and require medical, physical, and emotional support.

- Take vitals, check blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and act as a safety attendant for patients.
- Ensure that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
- Act as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care within our clinics alongside RN’s/Providers.
- Perform basic skills per department guidelines and communicate observations to members of the health care team.
- Collect and report physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider.
- Ensure that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
- Required High School Diploma or equivalent.
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days.
- Experience in direct patient care is preferred.
