Technical Writer
Job Description
The Technical Writer is responsible for creating, editing, and maintaining comprehensive technical documentation, including equipment installation, operation, and maintenance manuals; machine safety documentation; troubleshooting and service guides; standard operating procedures (SOPs); and internal work instructions. This role requires collaboration with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers, as well as manufacturing, assembly, field service, and customer support teams to gather accurate technical content.
The Technical Writer reviews engineering drawings, schematics, PLC logic descriptions, and bills of materials (BOMs) to ensure documentation accuracy and clarity. All materials must comply with applicable OSHA, machine safety, ISO, and customer-specific documentation standards.
Responsibilities
+ Create, edit, and maintain technical documentation for equipment installation, operation, and maintenance.
+ Develop machine safety documentation and troubleshooting guides.
+ Craft standard operating procedures (SOPs) and internal work instructions.
+ Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to gather and verify technical information.
+ Review engineering drawings, schematics, and PLC logic descriptions for accuracy.
+ Ensure documentation complies with OSHA, machine safety, ISO, and customer-specific standards.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in technical writing.
+ Experience in a manufacturing environment.
+ Expertise in documenting complex mechanical or electrical systems.
+ Ability to create equipment manuals for installation, operation, and maintenance.
+ Skill in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and schematics.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
+
Experience with custom machinery and automation.
+ Knowledge of ISO documentation standards.
+ Familiarity with machine safety standards such as ISO, ANSI, and CE marking.
Work Environment
This role is a mix of office-based work and time spent on the manufacturing floor, collaborating with different engineering groups. It is expected to be a full-time position, with a standard 40-hour work week.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
