The Server Engineer ensures the reliability, security, and performance of Cornerstone University’s IT infrastructure, enabling the institution to fulfill its mission. This role manages and optimizes core systems, including servers, storage platforms, directory services, and network security. In addition to maintaining existing infrastructure, the Server Engineer contributes to the design and implementation of new or upgraded systems, driving continuous improvement and innovation in technology services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan, implement, and maintain on-premises and cloud-based server and storage systems, including Microsoft Azure, ensuring seamless integration with Directory Services and key enterprise applications.
  • Ensure high availability and security of server and storage platforms supporting internal business functions, student engagement, and academic processes.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and remediate escalated issues impacting server, storage, and Directory Services operations, with a focus on minimizing downtime and security risks.
  • Serve as a primary liaison with vendors and external service providers for server, storage, and Directory Services, ensuring compliance with security and performance standards.
  • Assist in architecting and deploying technologies that support enterprise data, voice, and secure network infrastructure.
  • Document system designs, operational procedures, and troubleshooting steps, maintaining accurate and secure records for compliance and continuity.
  • Implement, manage, and regularly test enterprise backup and disaster recovery systems to safeguard critical data.
  • Apply security best practices across all server and storage platforms, including patch management, vulnerability assessments, and access controls.
  • Participate in incident response and recovery efforts, including on-call support outside regular business hours for emergency issues.
  • Collaborate with IT team to ensure adherence to cybersecurity policies and regulatory requirements.
Other duties include:
  • Also provide backup to the engineer supporting Networking and VoIP
  • General day to day system administration for all Infrastructure Systems.
  • Assist with Disaster Recovery Planning
  • Understand the fundamentals of the Backup system in order to restore from it in an emergency.
  • Proactively seek to solve issues and ensure efficiency by constantly looking for areas of improvement
  • Willingness to learn and research new assigned concepts and specialize in those areas.
  • Provide emergency after hours support for critical services
  • Document solutions/procedures as needed.
  • Assist Information Technology staff with special projects as needed.
  • Attend staff meetings and training as appropriate
  • Occasionally assist with training and guiding student technicians
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA/BS Degree and 2 years related experience or 4-5 years directly related experience
  • Microsoft AZ104, AZ800/801, SC300, AZ500, Network +, Security + are a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge level infrastructure systems.
  • Knowledge of basic programming concepts and scripting
  • Excellent organizational, communications, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to function in a fast‑paced, multi‑tasking role within a team environment
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively to ensure all assigned responsibilities are completed
