Structural Design Tech I at UFP Industries

Under general supervision, provides support to the factory-built engineering department by building and testing trusses and through the preparation of engineering drawings utilizing software to design wood trusses.

Location: Must office out of Granger, IN or Grand Rapids, MI

• Select materials from shop inventory as specified on design documents.
• Operate press or other equipment to assemble components into a completed truss.
• Perform testing of trusses as directed.
• Perform duties consistent with established safety rules and procedures.
• Design metal plate connected wood trusses utilizing structural design software.
• Prepare engineering drawings for manufactured housing roof trusses as assigned.
• Prepare written repair procedures and drawings for damaged trusses under the direction/supervision of an engineer.
• Optimize designs for maximum efficiency.
• Perform other duties as required.

• Basic knowledge of algebra, trigonometry and geometry.
• Ability to understand load transfers and knowledge of material strengths and values.
• Working knowledge of floor and roof systems.
• Proficiency in the use of the English language in reading, writing and speaking.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and structural plans.
• Strong math skills.
• Ability to use a computer, and software in a technical environment.
• Ability to successfully interact with all organizational levels and the public.
• Ability to communicate effectively with others, including customers, architects, engineers, peers, and management.
