Job DescriptionAs a Senior Industrial Simulation Developer at OTTO by Rockwell Automation, you will create and run simulations that help the team optimize robot fleets and system solutions. You’ll act as a subject‑matter expert, lead modeling and simulation projects, and consult directly with and for our customers. The ISA team works closely with Systems Engineering, Applications Engineering, Project Management, and Customers to support overall solution design from initial concept to full system deployment.
You will build material flow strategies (based on self‑driving vehicles) for existing and future products, developing accurate and robust simulations to evaluate design, lower risk, and enhance the elegance of our solutions. This is a remote‑based role reporting to the Simulation and Analysis Services Manager.
- Creating discrete event simulations for material handling systems to establish equipment, layout, and operation requirements, identify traffic bottlenecks, and gain insight on expected performance
- Consulting with project leads, sales team members, and customers to obtain understanding of the requirements and to collect the necessary inputs
- Analyzing results and making recommendations for facility layout and material flow design
- Presenting simulation results to engineers, sales teams, and clients
- Validating models against real‑world data to maintain accuracy relative to product portfolio
- Troubleshooting simulation issues and bugs
- Growing and improving the simulation library and internal templates for functionality, accuracy, scalability, and efficiency
- Interacting with development teams to assess the impact of new features or products
- Recommending product feature and improvement ideas that lead to greater system optimization in the real world

- 5+ years of relevant work experience
- Proven success executing simulation projects to evaluate feasibility of facility or process design, mitigate deployment risks, and identify operational opportunities
- Effectively propose, test, and communicate industrial engineering principles to contribute to solution feasibility and improvements
- Experience with discrete event simulation tools (Preference for Simio and/or Emulate3D)
- Fearless in questioning to ensure end users get the most value from your work; strong early goal alignment and scope definition
- Experience collaborating with cross‑functional and external client teams to gather comprehensive data for model development and analysis
- Effectively communicate model functionality and assumptions to clients or internal teams to ensure accuracy of simulation results
- Customer‑first mindset
- Avid self‑learner mentality
- Able to cope with sudden jarring changes in projects, priorities, scope, and the local gravity field
- Experience identifying traffic and material flow bottlenecks and mitigating risk
- Experience in the manufacturing and/or material‑handling industry
- Experience with simulation library development
- Experience with Object‑Oriented programming, C# programming
