Job Description:

Applied Technology Teacher - High School 1.0 FTE

Primary Function:

Northview High School is seeking a dynamic and innovative Applied Technology Teacher to inspire students in the rapidly evolving fields of technology and engineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and delivering an engaging curriculum in a comprehensive applied technology program, specifically teaching courses such as STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Cybersecurity, and Robotics.

This role requires a passionate educator who can foster critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and real-world application of technological concepts.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of two (2) years or 4,000 hours (within the past 10 years) of recent and relevant work experience in one of the following areas:
    • Agriculture, Agricultural Operations and Related Sciences
    • Agriculture Science and Natural Resources
    • Agriculture Production, General
  • Note:

    The ACA route requires a commitment to attain the appropriate teaching certification and endorsement within 10 years.
  • OR a bachelor's degree or higher in Technology Education, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
Training and Experience:
  • Prior teaching experience in applied technology, STEM, CTE or related subjects preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience or strong interest in teaching CAD, Cybersecurity, and Robotics.
  • Industry experience in engineering, IT, or manufacturing is a significant plus.
Demonstrated Technical Skills:
  • Proficiently use and teach various software platforms relevant to CAD (e.g., Tinkercad, Onshape, Solid Works, AutoCAD), Cybersecurity (e.g., network security tools, coding for security, ethical hacking principles), and Robotics (e.g., VEX, Arduino, Python for robotics).
  • Introduce students to 3D printing, laser cutting, and other advanced manufacturing technologies as applicable.

Collaboration and Professionalism:
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, administration, parents, and community partners to enhance the educational experience.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to continuously improve teaching practices and technological expertise.
  • Adhere to all school district policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines.
  • Potentially sponsor or co-sponsor extracurricular activities related to technology (e.g., Robotics Club, Cyber Patriot, Tech Challenge).
Assigned Responsibilities (General):

Instruction and Curriculum Development:
  • Design, implement, and assess engaging lessons and projects for Applied Technology courses, aligning with Michigan K-12 Standards and relevant industry benchmarks.
  • Integrate cross-curricular connections, particularly emphasizing the interdisciplinary nature of STEAM.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles and promote active student participation.
  • Stay current with advancements in applied technology fields and incorporate new tools, software, and best practices into the curriculum.
Classroom Management and Environment:
  • Create a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment that encourages exploration, experimentation, and collaboration.
  • Manage and maintain technology equipment, software, and lab spaces, ensuring their safe and effective use.
  • Establish clear expectations for student behavior and academic performance.
  • Teaches students and follows industry best practices in safety and lab/equipment operations and supervision.
Student Assessment and Growth:
  • Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Analyze student data to inform instruction and differentiate learning experiences.
  • Support students in developing portfolios of their work, particularly in CAD and Robotics projects.
Terms of Employment:
  • Follows the Northview Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement (NvEA CBA) and is evaluated by building administrator
