The Opportunity

We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) to join the Quality team. The SQE plays a critical role in ensuring that external suppliers consistently deliver materials and components that meet the company’s strict quality standards, safety requirements, and regulatory expectations.

This role is responsible for evaluating supplier performance, conducting audits, managing supplier non-conformances, performing root cause analysis for defects, and implementing corrective and preventive actions to strengthen supplier quality.

The SQE will work cross-functionally with Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to improve supplier performance and support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance overall product quality and customer satisfaction.

This role reports directly to the VP of Quality and supports the broader Quality Department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct supplier audits, assessments, and qualifications of new and existing suppliers, either remotely or on-site
  • Evaluate supplier capabilities, quality systems, and compliance with company and regulatory standards
  • Prepare audit reports and communicate findings with internal teams and supplier partners
Supplier Quality & Performance Management
  • Monitor supplier performance metrics and track key quality KPIs
  • Analyze supplier data using analytical tools to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement
  • Stay informed on supplier performance trends and proactively address emerging quality concerns
Receiving Inspection & Incoming Quality
  • Work closely with operations and quality teams to ensure effective receiving inspection processes are in place
  • Review incoming material inspections and ensure supplier components meet required specifications
  • Investigate incoming quality issues and coordinate resolution with suppliers and internal teams
Corrective Actions & Root Cause Analysis
  • Manage Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCAR) and ensure timely resolution of supplier non-conformances
  • Lead root cause investigations using structured problem-solving methods
  • Drive suppliers to implement effective corrective and preventive actions (SCAPA) that eliminate recurring defects.
Quality Systems & Process Development
  • Develop and maintain quality plans, inspection procedures, and documentation
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards such as ISO 9001, AS9100, AS9102, or ISO 13485
  • Support documentation control and quality system compliance
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen supplier quality processes and develop new systems or processes from the ground up when necessary to improve supplier performance management.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Purchasing, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to resolve supplier issues and support new product introductions (NPI)
  • Collaborate with operations teams to identify areas for quality improvement
  • Assist in developing training materials for quality assurance and compliance staff
  • Analyze quality metrics, supplier data, and defect trends to identify improvement opportunities
  • Drive initiatives that improve supplier performance, product quality, and operational efficiency

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or a related technical field
