General Purpose of Position

An injection bar driller helper assists in the installation of hollow-core, self-drilling anchor bars—often called injection bars—which act as both the drill string and the final grouted reinforcement in unstable soils. The primary role is to manage the continuous supply of grout, handle the threaded bars, and maintain the drilling equipment to ensure a seamless "drill-and-fill" operation.

Core Responsibilities
  • Grout Management: Mixing cement grout and operating grout plants or pumps. Ensuring the grout is injected through the hollow core of the bar at the correct pressure to stabilize the borehole.
  • Bar and Bit Handling: Preparing and connecting sections of threaded hollow bars, such as the Williams Geo-Drill Hollow Injection Bar or Magnacore Self-Drilling Micropiles, and attaching sacrificial drill bits that remain in the ground.
  • Equipment Setup and Maintenance: Assisting in the mobilization and demobilization of drill rigs, cleaning the site, and performing daily pre-operational inspections on pumps and hoses.
  • Site Safety: Participating in daily safety briefings and ensuring all crew members follow PPE and MSHA/OSHA guidelines, especially when working around high-pressure injection lines.
Common Equipment Used
  • Hollow Injection Bars: Continuously threaded steel tubes (e.g., R32, T40, or T76 thread profiles) that serve as the anchor.
  • Grout Pumps and Mixers: Machines like the PBM Injection Machine which use vertical shaft agitation to keep grout materials mixed for continuous delivery.
  • Installation Accessories: Including high-strength couplers, bearing plates, and hex nuts used to tension and secure the bars.
  • Drill Rigs: Typically top hammer or compact hollow bar drilling heads that can be used in limited-space environments like tunnels.
