Nuclear Care Partners (NCP) provides in-home care to former atomic workers and uranium miners who served our country in critical and often hazardous roles. Our mission is to honor these individuals and their families by delivering compassionate, holistic care that supports physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
Position Summary
The Volunteer Chaplain provides spiritual and emotional support to NCP patients, families, and staff. This role plays an essential part in NCP’s holistic care model by offering presence, guidance, and compassion while respecting diverse beliefs, traditions, and values.
This is an unpaid volunteer position. Volunteer Chaplains are required to complete onboarding, orientation, and compliance requirements consistent with Nuclear Care Partners’ standards of care.
ResponsibilitiesPatient & Family Support
- Provide spiritual and emotional support to patients and their families
- Offer a compassionate, non-judgmental listening presence
- Conduct spiritual assessments to understand beliefs, values, and needs
- Offer prayer, meditation, or other spiritual practices as requested
- Support patients in finding meaning and purpose during illness or end-of-life care
- Connect patients and families with faith-based or spiritual resources as desired
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to integrate spiritual care into care plans
- Document spiritual care interactions as required
Staff Support
- Provide emotional and spiritual support to staff members
- Offer confidential listening and support during challenging situations
- Facilitate reflection and debriefing opportunities
- Promote a culture of compassion, empathy, and respect
- Serve as a resource related to spirituality, ethics, and end-of-life care
Community Engagement
- Build relationships with local faith leaders and spiritual communities
- Participate in community outreach activities as appropriate
- Completion of a qualified chaplain training program
- Experience providing spiritual care in a healthcare or similar setting
- Ability to provide culturally sensitive and inclusive spiritual care
- Strong communication, listening, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Knowledge of ethical principles and professional standards for chaplaincy
- Sensitivity to individuals with chronic illness and end-of-life concerns
- Commitment to the mission and values of Nuclear Care Partners
- Professional, discreet, and trustworthy demeanor
- Valid driver’s license and current auto insurance
- Ability to meet physical requirements related to patient care (including lifting up to 40–50 lbs)
- Ability to pass required background checks and health screenings (as required by state)
- Commitment to confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
This is a volunteer, unpaid role. Volunteers are required to complete onboarding and compliance steps similar to paid employees to ensure the highest standards of care and safety.
