The City of Grand Junction is seeking an Operations Support Engineer Specialist to work with our wastewater division team. In this role, you will work collaboratively with our staff to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to optimize plant and collection system performance. You will be the go‑to to provide operational technical support for our frontline staff.

As an Operations Support Engineer Specialist, you will have a pivotal role in reducing the chemical and energy footprint of our treatment plant, conducting pilot studies to evaluate new technologies, and identifying areas for continuous improvement. You will work closely with a team of professionals who are committed to delivering high‑quality wastewater treatment services to our community.

We are seeking candidates with a strong engineering background, experience in wastewater treatment processes, and a passion for sustainability. The focus of the role is to evaluate and implement innovative technologies to improve plant performance and reduce our environmental impact. Experience with process optimization and troubleshooting is a plus, as well as experience with data analysis and modeling. Additionally, candidates should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as you will be working closely with a team of professionals to achieve our goals.

The Operations Support Engineer Specialist role offers a unique opportunity to work on exciting projects, learn new skills, and make a meaningful difference in our community.

The division has undertaken innovative projects such as developing renewable natural gas from wastewater treatment to be used as vehicle fuel, expanding treatment plant capacity, and overhauling biosolids processing. The division is also responsible for maintaining and operating the extensive sewer network of the city and county, which includes over 600 miles of sewer lines and 26 lift stations. The 40 professionals in the wastewater division are organized into five teams:
Collections, Operations, Maintenance, Environmental Compliance and Laboratory. These teams work collaboratively to ensure that the City's wastewater is managed efficiently and effectively, with minimal impact on the environment.

The division is also responsible for maintaining and operating the extensive sewer network of the city and county, which includes over 600 miles of sewer lines and 26 lift stations.

These teams work collaboratively to ensure that the city's wastewater is managed efficiently and effectively, with minimal impact on the environment.
