About the Work UnitThis work unit provides materials‑related guidance and direction in preconstruction and construction activities from project inception to closure. It manages surface treatment asset funds, performs drilling and laboratory testing, audits quantity documentation, and provides guidance to Project Engineers on contract modifications, as‑constructed plans, project pay documentation, contract claim settlement, and project budgets.
About the PositionThis position manages the Finals Administration within the Central Program Engineering team, overseeing the closure process for all Region 3 Construction and ITS projects. The role is an SME for final documentation, a region leader for digital documentation implementation, and acts as records coordinator for all regional project documentation.
Duties and Responsibilities- Manage the Region Construction Finals Documentation Program and review process.
- Determine how the final checking/auditing process is performed and tracked.
- Review and approve the work of other region employees on final pay and materials documentation checks.
- Schedule and conduct interim pay documentation audits of active construction projects and recommend corrections.
- Review Contract Modification Orders (CMO) for accuracy and attachments.
- Digitally file and distribute documentation per the Construction Manual.
- Evaluate project documentation regarding logic, engineering calculations, and completeness; investigate discrepancies.
- Oversee, train and assist CDOT and consultant personnel with construction project documentation.
- Lead and manage interim construction documentation during active construction for Region 3 projects.
- Evaluate documentation and recommend corrections to Project Engineers and Resident Engineers.
- Ensure as‑constructed plans, standards, and specifications have proper engineering principles applied.
- Supervise direct reports by planning and prioritizing work, developing a finals unit work plan and performance objectives.
- Manage and coordinate the formal as‑constructed project finals document retention.
- Participate in selection process for vacant positions.
- Implement policies and procedures fairly; ensure they are followed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Primarily 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM work hours, Monday – Friday.
- Average 40 hours/week with periodic overtime based on projects.
- Approximately 20 % field, 80 % office.
- Occasional evening, night, and weekend work.
- Travel required throughout Region for meetings and site visits.
- May require nights or weekend work due to construction schedules.
- Required to operate CDOT vehicles.
- Experience Only:
At least eight years of experience in construction inspection and documentation, materials testing or management, construction management, checking pay or materials documentation. - Education and Experience:
A combination of relevant education and experience equal to at least eight years, including accredited college coursework in construction management or related field.
- Demonstrated success with duties listed.
- Years of state service experience related to duties (required by COWins).
