All About General MerchandiseGeneral Merchandise experts lead operations, process, and efficiency, ensuring products are merchandised, priced, and available on the floor. The team manages inventory accuracy, pricing, and promotional signing processes across all GM areas, and supports Food & Beverage areas to deliver a safe offering. Pick, pack, and ship fulfillment is also within the team’s remit.
Skills- Guest service fundamentals and building a guest‑first culture.
- Retail business fundamentals: sales trends, inventory management, guest shopping patterns, pricing and promotion strategy.
- Team leadership: plan daily/weekly workload, drive process improvements, enhance efficiency.
- Staff development: interview, coach, evaluate, and retain hourly team members.
- Coaching and training hourly team members with guidance from the direct leader.
- Execute daily/weekly workload to reach department and store sales goals and guest engagement goals, including merchandising, pricing, and display management.
- Educate the team on operational procedures and their impact on inventory, profitability, and product availability.
- Assist in assessing reports to identify gaps and develop improvement plans.
- Serve as an operational expert, ensuring accuracy, process efficiency, and compliance.
- Lead daily tasks such as receiving products, restocking shelves, organizing backrooms, arranging merchandise, and deploying promotional signage.
- Guide inventory accuracy and price‑setting processes for all store areas.
- Assign daily tasks based on workload and guest traffic, aligning with business priorities.
- Set clear goals and hold team members accountable.
- Support pick, pack and ship fulfillment accurately and identify reporting gaps for improvement.
- Collaborate with all teams and leaders to ensure the store is guest‑ready.
- Stay informed on relevant trends and products, sharing Target communications at team connection moments.
- Evaluate candidates for open positions and develop a guest‑centric team with onboarding, coaching, and skill gap reduction.
- Work a flexible schedule across early, evening, overnight shifts and weekends.
- Support guest services such as backup cashier or digital fulfillment while maintaining compliance.
- Demonstrate inclusivity, ethical conduct, safety, and compliance—lead and hold the team accountable.
- Model safe behaviors, address hazards, support incident response, and report investigations accurately.
- Execute physical security processes to enhance in‑store security culture.
- Support merchandise protection strategies, including ordering, storage, and application per best practices.
- Provide a welcoming experience through greeting guests and engaging in a welcoming manner.
- Follow safe and secure training as a key carrier (if applicable).
- Address store emergency and compliance needs.
- Perform all other duties as needed based on business needs.
- Enjoy interacting and helping guests and teammates.
- Excel in a fast‑moving, highly active, physically demanding role that requires teamwork, flexibility, and problem solving.
- Be open to a flexible schedule with varying hours, days, and shifts—including nights, weekends, and holidays.
