Summary
Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures under the supervision of a qualified physician. Uses ultrasound technology and techniques to assist in the diagnosis of patient medical problems for patients throughout the age continuum.

- Performs ultrasound procedures to include abdominal, obstetrical, gynecological, neuro, small parts, breast, interventional and Doppler.
- Uses sterile technique as required for invasive procedures.
- Optimally demonstrates patient anatomy through proper positioning and transducer selection.
- Competently operates all ultrasound equipment and support systems to include HIS, RIS, Scheduling System, PACS, C-PACS, Sono Sites and offsite Radiologist Services.
- Utilizes department computer systems, PACS, etc., to review patient history and provide accurate documentation of studies.
- Properly cares for and images patients of all ages; maintains patient confidentiality.
- Coordinates exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care; communicates with medical staff, coworkers, patients, families and other hospital staff to ensure quality patient care.
- Handles telephone calls for scheduling, coordination or questions with courtesy and accuracy.
- Participates in the department's quality improvement plan as required.
- Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment as necessary; notifies supervisor of equipment problems and calls appropriate service vendors as needed.
- Keeps work area properly supplied.
- Participates in the training of diagnostic medical sonography students and provides general support of their clinical education; completes required documentation as indicated and adheres to the expectations of the Bryan College of Health Sciences General Sonography program.
- Accesses and administers drugs and biologics that are pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical Center procedures.
- Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in the field of expertise.
- Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
- Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit including but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to patient’s growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency verification and mandatory education and competencies.
- Knowledge of sonographic anatomy and pathophysiology.
- Knowledge of the physical principles of ultrasound and Doppler techniques.
- Knowledge of ultrasound invasive and non-invasive procedures.
- Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
- Skill in operating ultrasound machines, transducers, image capture devices, PACS, and other related systems.
- Ability to react appropriately and perform work under stressful and emergent situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.
- Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

- Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Graduate of a Diagnostic Medical Sonography program required. American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certification in the practice specialty of abdomen required within three) months of hire date required.
Other Credentials / CertificationsBasic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
