About Us :
Tassell CNC is a small, family-owned precision machine shop in Nunica, MI, specializing in high-tolerance components for Department of Defense and demanding commercial customers. We handle everything from one-off prototypes to production runs, with a focus on 3/4-axis CNC milling and turning. Our current tight-knit team of 3 (owner + 2 machinists) delivers strict quality and fast turnaround in a hands-on, no-nonsense environment.
We re growing steadily and need a strong Shop Foreman to lead production on the floor.
As Shop Foreman at Tassell CNC, you ll be the key hands-on leader—machining precise parts yourself most days while directing our 2 machinists to keep jobs accurate, efficient, and on schedule. This is a true working-lead position in a small family shop: set the quality standard, troubleshoot in real time, guide the team, and drive daily operations.
Responsibilities- Lead as the primary machinist and floor supervisor: perform precision CNC milling (3 & 4 axis) and turning (setups, program edits, operation, tooling/fixturing selection, and troubleshooting) on complex, tight-tolerance parts per customer drawings and specs—primarily on Doosan machines with Fanuc controls.
- Work side-by-side with and guide the 2 machinists: assign tasks based on priorities and deadlines, provide on-the-spot coaching for efficient setups, techniques, and problem-solving, and help build their skills for consistent high-quality output.
- Interpret blueprints, GD&T, engineering drawings, and technical data to plan sequences, choose tools/materials, and ensure first-pass accuracy across the team.
- Handle in-process and final inspections with precision tools (micrometers, calipers, CMM, gauges, etc.), document key measurements, resolve issues quickly, and support first-article inspections (FAI) or quality needs for defense/prototype work.
- Diagnose and fix machining/equipment issues, process inefficiencies, or bottlenecks to minimize scrap, rework, and downtime while maximizing shop throughput.
- Oversee daily workflow across machines and team: track job progress, material/tool usage, and efficiency; make adjustments and share quick wins to stay on schedule.
- Keep the shop safe, clean, and organized (5S style), perform preventive maintenance on CNC equipment (Doosan/Fanuc systems), monitor tool calibration, and enforce safety standards.
- Partner closely with the owner on scheduling, material/vendor coordination, prototype development, and any production challenges.
- Contribute practical ideas to refine processes for repeat jobs, prototypes, or production runs—helping Tassell CNC deliver reliable results for high-stakes customers.
- 5+ years of hands-on precision CNC machining experience, with solid proficiency in 3/4-axis milling and turning.
- CAD/CAM proficiency (Autodesk Fusion experience a plus)
- Strong experience on Doosan CNC machines with Fanuc controls (setups, editing programs, operation, and troubleshooting; live tooling experience beneficial).
- Track record machining tight-tolerance parts for defense, aerospace, or similar demanding industries (prototype experience preferred).
- Expert at reading complex blueprints, applying GD&T, and planning efficient machining strategies.
- Skilled with precision inspection (CMM a plus) and proactive quality mindset to catch issues early.
- Strong troubleshooting ability and ownership mentality in a fast-paced small-shop setting.
- U.S. citizenship required (for ITAR/DoD work).
- Reliable, detail-driven team player who thrives with minimal oversight in a family-owned shop.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training, apprenticeship experience a plus.
- Direct path to growth as we add team members, machines, and contracts.
- Hands-on autonomy in a small, family-owned shop—no corporate red tape.
- Opportunity to shape processes and help build Tassell CNC into a top-tier precision supplier.
- 120/hrs of paid time off + earned sick time.
