Overview
Registered Nurse - Behavioral Health, 12 Hour shifts (Days & Nights available) - PRN. PRN requires ability to work 36 hours/month with one weekend shift.
Horizon Health Corporation is seeking a Registered Nurse RN (PRN) for our brand new unit called Altru Behavioral Health Center in Grand Forks, ND. This 24-bed inpatient unit will serve both adult and pediatric patients, with plans to expand to an additional 24 beds in 2026. Altru Health System and Universal Health Services are partnering to expand inpatient behavioral health services.
This position is responsible for assessing, monitoring, recording and reporting symptoms or changes in patient conditions, maintaining accurate patient reports and histories, performing mental and physical assessments, administering medications and treatments, assisting patients with daily activities, and observing reactions. The RN will manage activities within the therapeutic milieu, including daily groups, education, 1:1 interactions, and collaboration with the treatment team to ensure the best possible care.
- Complete initial nursing assessment within 24 hours of admission per facility policy; reassess routinely throughout the patient7s stay.
- Complete individualized treatment plans for each patient.
- Plan, implement and coordinate nursing care activities for patients.
- Conduct therapies in accordance with the patient’s diagnosis and needs.
- Perform treatment interventions following physician orders, including medication administration and other medical treatments.
- Medication reconciliation.
- Follow voluntary and involuntary procedures/processes.
- Interpret the nursing and treatment needs of the patient to nonclinical staff.
- Ensure patient dignity and respect patient values; establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional and psychological support to patients, families and friends.

Qualifications- State RN Certification/License
- CPR, BLS and ACLS certifications
- 1-3 years of nursing experience
- Crisis prevention experience
- Ability to manage anger, fear, hostility and violence of others
- Ability to manage stress appropriately
- Proficient in applicable software applications
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Proficient in mathematical and analytical skills as they apply to clinical duties
- Above-average organizational skills
