Position: FIRE CHIEF with Security Clearance
Duties
1. Plans, organizes, and oversees the activities of the Fire Protection Flight.
2. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Directs, coordinates, and oversees work through subordinate supervisors.
3. Represents the Fire Protection Flight with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.
4. Assumes full charge at crashes, fire, or emergency situations, directing activities and personnel, transmitting instructions to Assistant Chiefs on the scene or other personnel as to the procedures to be followed.
5. Determines need, budgets for, and recommends acquisition of additional and/or different fire protection, firefighting, and specialized rescue equipment, contract services, formal training, etc. Requirements Conditions of employment

* Full/part-time employees occupying direct childcare positions are eligible for discounts IAW DAF AFSVC/CC Memo, 30 Sep 22; first child 100% / each additional child 25%. Other assigned CYP and FCC personnel are eligible for 25% discount.
* Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
* This position may be designated as a key position IAW AFI 36-507. Duties of this position may be locally determined to be essential to the accomplishment of wartime/contingency operations.
* Incumbents of key positions must be removed from their military recall status if alternative for filling of the position during an emergency are not available.
* Incumbent may work a minimum 60-hour week with supervisor's approval.
* Required to participate in a physical fitness program and pass an annual physical.
* Incumbent is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week unless TDY or on leave.
* This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.
* Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
* This position requires a pre-employment physical examination.
* Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET security clearance. Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, for the 0083 Fire Protection series. SPECIALIZED

EXPERIENCE:

CURRENT FEDERAL OR PRIOR FEDERAL EMPLOYEES:
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-10, or equivalent in other pay systems. EXTERNAL APPLICANTS: must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade

GS-11 grade level (or higher) or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Such duties may include (1) controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; (2) rescue operations; (3) detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards;

(4) operation of fire communications equipment; (5) controlling hazardous materials incidents and/or (6) developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS:
Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. CURRENT FEDERAL OR PRIOR FEDERAL EMPLOYEES:
One year at the GS-10level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. EXTERNAL APPLICANTS:
One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.

NOTE:

Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. Effective 1 Jun 00, all DoD firefighters and contract fire and emergency service personnel must be certified at the next higher level before being eligible for promotion to that level. Applicants must list their current firefighter related licenses and certificates on their resumes.
