  • Compensation: $30 Hourly, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)
    - Sign-on bonus: $10,000 total
  • Sign-on details: $5,000 at start of employment, and $5,000 upon completion of the probationary period. If the individual leaves before two years of service, a payback schedule applies.
  • Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Location: This position will work onsite at the Grand Forks, ND campus.
Purpose of Position
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform FAA approved progressive inspections, 100 hr, 50 hr, and Annual inspections on fixed wing and rotor wing aircraft, in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, Federal Aviation Regulations, and UND Aerospace maintenance policies and procedures.
  • Research and comply with FAA A.D.’s (Airworthiness Directives), manufacturer Service Bulletins (S.B.), Service Letters (S.L.), and regulatory requirements.
  • Determine time life limits and inspection intervals for aircraft components.
  • Designated technician for FAA Repair Station OG5R092N: perform maintenance and inspection as required by UND’s FAA approved Part 145 Repair Station; comply with Part 145 regulations; complete required documents, records and FAA reports; determine proper components and parts application; return aircraft to service after applicable deferrals and MEL.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and address discrepancies: correct aircraft discrepancies; troubleshoot and repair inoperative systems; read and follow manufacturer schematics; determine correct part numbers; perform sheet metal repairs following Structural Repair Manuals; inspect sheet metal for defects; perform routine maintenance on hydraulic systems, landing gear and other mechanical equipment; perform power plant repairs; repair ignition systems, starters, alternators, fuel systems, etc.; perform weight and balance calculations;

    conduct ground operations and engine performance checks; maintain and service propellers.
  • Perform minor and major alterations/repairs: determine major vs minor repairs per FARs; develop repair methods per FARs and AC 43-13; complete FAA Form 337 for major repairs/alterations; coordinate with FAA personnel for approvals; install STCs and complete required FAA documentation.
  • Accurately complete regulatory aircraft records, inspection forms and work orders: complete FAA required log books and UND work orders per FAR part 43; use checklists for scheduled and special inspections; record compliance with Airworthiness Directives, Service Bulletins, and Service Letters; ensure return-to-service entries are made before approval; approve return to service using A&P certificate number and signature.
  • Follow General Maintenance shop practices: follow safety practices; operate shop equipment; maintain proficiency; supervise/train subordinates; keep work areas clean and safe; move aircraft in/out of hangars.
  • Good interpersonal/oral/written communication skills; ability to lift/move objects up to 75 pounds; high mechanical aptitude; ability to read and follow technical publications and schematics; operate diagnostic equipment; knowledge of specialty aircraft maintenance equipment.
  • Education/credentials:
    Associates Degree or High School Diploma with 3 years related experience; FAA A&P certificate; currency per FAR Part 65.83; successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years of experience as a certified A&P technician in general aviation.
  • Experience with Piper, Cessna, and rotary-wing aircraft.
  • FAA Part 147 Aviation Maintenance Technician School education.
  • Experience with FAA Part 145 Repair Station.
