General Summary
Facilitate the provision of patient care by performing basic, age-appropriate nursing care to patients under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide care for the age group(s) served.

- Schedule: Part-Time Afternoons - 3pm - 11:30pm Mon - Fri & EOWE
- Hospital: Henry Ford Health Genesys
- Location: Grand Blanc, Michigan

- Patient Care Skills
- Assists the RN/LPN with functions to promote, restore, and maintain optimum patient health.
- Participate in the creation and maintenance of a healthy work environment by: i. Accepting professional direction and leadership of the RN ii. Communication with RN, the progress of work assignment, problems encountered, or work completed.
- Perform patient hygiene activities (e.g., bathing, foot care, shaving, hair care).
- Assist with patient mobility activities (ambulation, transfers to chair, etc.).
- Assist with transfer of patients from bed to stretcher/stretcher to bed.
- Assist with keeping patients clean, dry, and regularly turned to prevent skin breakdown.
- Perform non-sterile treatments.
- Assist monitoring and reporting of patient pain levels; assist patients to achieve optimum comfort levels (e.g., repositioning).
- Ensure supplies are immediately available by retrieving and returning equipment per procedure.
- Perform other related duties as requested and directed.
- Dietary
- Assists patients with meals and snacks; prepares patient for meal service; assists with menu selection; collects soiled trays; delivers snacks; records patient food intake; communicates patient eating problems; orders non-food items; performs other related dietary duties as assigned.
- Transportation
- Transports patients in safe, efficient, timely manner; uses proper transfer techniques; observes patient condition and notifies appropriate personnel of changes in status.
- Safety
- Maintains a safe environment for patients and co-workers; recognizes unsafe conditions, reports to supervisor; uses Universal Precautions; observes patients at risk for fall or injury; reports broken or damaged equipment; operates equipment safely; disposes of biomedical waste properly; uses proper body mechanics.
- Quality Improvement (QI)
- Participates in QI activities including safety and universal precautions; completes QI data collection; participates in corrective action plans; uses cost containment in daily practice.
- Environmental/Compliance
- Performs limited housekeeping activities in select areas (MPU) as needed.
- Comply with department and Medical Center policies and procedures; adhere to attendance policies.
- Essential Functions
- Mobility to move between rooms and departments; initiate and complete patient care evacuation procedures; lift/move/transfer patients; use transfer techniques (standing pivot, sliding board, 2-3 person lifts, sheet assists).
- Manual dexterity for patient treatments and equipment use.
- Organizational skills, problem solving, and data collection; respond to unusual or abnormal situations.
- Interpersonal and written communication with patients, families, staff, physicians.
- Ability to walk, stoop, reach; push/pull carts; climb or work from ladders.
- Working Conditions:
Setting is a clinical nursing unit; prolonged standing, lifting; may be exposed to illness, infections, blood hazards, chemicals; duties may be interrupted. - Orientation Requirements:
Attend new employee and departmental orientations.
- Certified BLS Provider (AHA) required within 3 months of hire.
- Current Michigan Nurse Aide certification required at hire or must be obtained prior to hire; or at least 6 months acute care experience or first year of nursing school clinical rotation required.
- It is not required to maintain certification after hire for Nursing Assistants; internal transfers are exempt from renewal;
