Responsibilities
  • Interpersonal skills/teamwork. Demonstrates a positive attitude and willingness to facilitate unit functioning.
  • Demonstrates Standards of Performance: demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills; demonstrate willingness to assist when asked; demonstrate flexibility in responding to patient/unit needs; knowledge of and adheres to patient rights; demonstrate compassion, concern, and respect to patients; respect and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Productivity/Professional Behavior. Is a productive/professional member of a health care team. Standards of Performance: show independence by completing duties with appropriate supervision; utilize time in an efficient manner, completing daily activities in a timely and organized fashion; show initiative in seeking out appropriate additional duties; present self in a manner that promotes a positive image; communicate identified unit problems following appropriate chain of command and actively participates in the problem-solving process;

    work effectively with others; attend 75% of department meetings and attends in-services regularly; performs other related duties as requested and as directed.
  • Patient Care Skills. Assists the RN/LPN with functions to promote, restore, and maintain optimum patient health. Standards of Performance: participate in the creation and maintenance of a healthy work environment by accepting professional direction and leadership of the RN; communicate with RN about progress of work assignment, problems encountered, or work completed; perform patient hygiene activities (bathing, foot care, shaving, hair care, etc.);

    assist with patient mobility activities (ambulation, transfers to chair, etc.); assist with transfer of patients from bed to stretcher and back; assist with keeping patients clean, dry, and regularly turned to prevent skin breakdown; perform non-sterile treatments; assist with monitoring and reporting of patient pain levels and assist patients to achieve optimum comfort levels (e.g., repositioning); ensure supplies are immediately available by retrieving and returning equipment per procedure;

    perform other related duties as directed.
  • Patient Care Skills. Assists RN/LPN with inpatient and outpatient monitoring activities. Standards of Performance: obtain patient-related information and reports and documents per policy and procedure (including vital signs, basic patient care, and valuables); observe and report patient elimination patterns; empty Foley bags and record output; complete I&O records; obtain and record patient weights; assist with preparation of patient for surgery and special procedures;

    collect non-sterile specimens; recognize and report abnormal or unusual situations in a timely basis (pain, respiratory distress, skin changes, etc.); utilize computer entry as directed; observe patients in restraints for comfort and safety per policy; ensure restraint is not restrictive to extremities; offer food, fluid, and toileting opportunities per policy; perform other related duties as directed.
  • Dietary. Assists patients with meals and snacks: prepares patient for meal service; assists with menu selection and meal service; collects soiled trays and takes to soiled utility room; delivers snacks; records patient food intake; communicates eating problems to appropriate personnel; orders non-food and food items; performs other related dietary duties as assigned.
