Full-Time Nights – 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., Monday to Friday & weekend/holiday alternates.

Facilitate the provision of patient care by performing basic, age‑appropriate nursing care under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities to support the age group(s) served.

- Patient Care Skills – Basic Hygiene & Mobility
- Perform bathing, foot care, shaving, hair care, etc.
- Assist with patient mobility: ambulation, transfers to chair, bed‑to‑stretcher, etc.
- Keep patients clean, dry, and turned to prevent skin breakdown.
- Perform non‑sterile treatments.
- Assist with pain monitoring and repositioning.
- Retrieve and return equipment promptly.
- Perform related duties as directed.
- Patient Care Skills – Monitoring & Documentation
- Record vital signs, basic patient care, and valuables.
- Observe and report elimination patterns; empty foley bags; record output.
- Complete I/O records; record patient weights.
- Assist with pre‑surgery preparation and special procedures.
- Collect non‑sterile specimens.
- Recognize and report abnormal situations promptly.
- Use computer entry as directed.
- Observe patients in restraints; offer food, fluid, and toileting opportunities per policy.
- Dietary Assistance
- Assist patients with meals, snacks; prepare for meal service; help with menu selection.
- Collect soiled trays; deliver snacks; record intake; communicate eating problems.
- Order non‑food & food items; perform other dietary duties as assigned.
- Transportation
- Transport patients safely and efficiently; use proper transfer techniques; monitor condition.
- Safety
- Maintain safe environment for patients and coworkers.
- Recognize unsafe conditions and report immediately.
- Use universal precautions; observe patients at risk for falls.
- Report/break equipment; use mechanical and electrical equipment safely.
- Dispose of biomedical waste correctly; practice proper body mechanics.
- Quality Improvement
- Participate in QI activities; collect data; implement corrective actions.
- Utilize cost containment measures.
- Environmental Services
- Perform limited housekeeping in select areas as needed.
- Compliance
- Adhere to department and Medical Center policies, standards, and rules of conduct.
- Comply with absenteeism and tardiness policies.
- Mobility to move between rooms, departments, and rapidly initiate patient care; lift, move, support, and transfer patients using standing pivot, sliding board, 2–3 person lifts, sheet assists.
- Manual dexterity for patient treatments and equipment manipulation.
- Organizational, observational, problem‑solving, and data collection skills.
- Interpersonal and written communication with patients, families, staff, physicians.
- Physical ability to walk, stoop, reach, lift, and work from ladders.
Clinical nursing unit setting; prolonged standing, lifting, exposure to communicable diseases, blood hazards, hazardous chemicals; frequent interruptions.
Orientation RequirementsAttend new employee and department orientations.
Education / Licensure / Certification Required- Certified BLS Provider (Basic Life Support) credentialed from the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.
- Current Michigan certification as a Nurse Aide at hire, or at least 6 months of acute care nurse‑aid or patient‑care technician experience, or completion of first year of clinical rotation in a nursing program.
- High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited program.
- Some experience preferred.
