Job Description

Granbury ISD requires three references from former employers, college professors, supervisors, etc with at least a minimum of two references being from previous supervisors. Granbury ISD will not accept references from friends or family members.

Contract days: 198

Primary Purpose:

Plan, implement, advocate, and evaluate a comprehensive developmental school counseling program. Program services are organized and delivered through the four components of (1) Guidance Curriculum, (2) Responsive Services, (3) Individual Planning, and (4) System Support. Provide a proactive, developmental guidance program to encourage all students to maximize growth and development.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • A Master’s degree in guidance and counseling
  • Valid Texas counseling certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
  • Excellent organizational, communications, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

Experience:

  • Three years teaching experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties Guidance
  • Proactively provide guidance through lessons and individual planning to assist all students developing and applying skills for maximum educational success.
  • Help teachers incorporate guidance-related information into existing curriculum.
  • Provide guidance to individuals and groups of students to develop education plans and career awareness.
  • Counseling individuals and small groups in accordance with students’ developmental needs.
Consultation
  • Consult and involve parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant people to enhance their work with students.
  • Work with school personnel and school district residents to obtain resources for students.
  • Use effective processes of referring students, parents/guardians, and others to special needed programs and services.
Assessment
  • Interpret standardized test results and other available student data to promote decision making for students
  • Use formal and informal assessment tools appropriately within the scope of practice and local district policy.
Program Management
  • Plan, implement, evaluate, and advocate for a comprehensive development school counseling program to ensure that they meet identified needs.
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of guidance program and make changes based on findings.

  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in guidance and counseling area.
  • Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.

  • Model behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise assigned student counseling aide(s).
