Bus Aide

Grain Valley R-5 School District TRANSPORTATION CENTER - GRAIN VALLEY, Missouri

POSITION SUMMARY: This position is primarily responsible for providing safe assistance during the transportation of students to and from school.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Operates specialized safety equipment on buses in relation to transportation of students with disabilities including wheelchair lifts, wheelchair tie-downs, safety vests and car-seats.
• Safely secures all wheelchair passengers using tie-downs in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
• Safely secures all students requiring safety vests and/or car seats.
• Assists the Bus Driver in maintaining order and discipline among passengers on the bus in accordance with district policies related to disciplining students; prepares related reports as necessary.
• Determines appropriate action in emergency situations according to established guidelines; administers first aid to passengers as needed.
• Operates, cares for, and cleans areas and equipment used in the transportation of students.
• Attends monthly in-service training to improve skills, attitudes and knowledge of transportation guidelines and student management.
• Demonstrates effective human relations and communications skills.
• Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.

REQUIRED

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students.
• Must be able to lift and carry 60 lbs.
• Previous experience working with children is preferred.
• Successfully complete the training program provided by the district.

• 9 month position
