A position has arisen within the Day Care Unit for a Ward Clerk. The role will be for 15 hours per week over 2 days. The successfully candidate must be willing to be flexible to support annual leave across the team when needed.
The role is to provide a full reception service to the Day Care Unit and support the nursing team. To greet patients on arrival to the unit, answer telephone queries and ensure all patient information, referrals and appointments are appropriately processed within Trust guidelines.
The candidate will offer the highest standard of customer care to patients, visitors and other service users, adhering to Departmental guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures and the Trust's Code of Values and Behaviours.
Main duties of the jobAs a Receptionist you will provide the first point of contact for patients, relatives and carers arriving for their procedures, presenting a professional, calm and confident manner in line with the Trust's Values and Behaviours.
You will provide a full reception service to the Day care unit including, but not limited to:
- Working knowledge of IPM.
- Greet patients arriving to the DCU for procedures.
- Supporting clinical staff and ensuring patient documentation is readily available.
- Ensuring patients' admission and discharge times are electronically captured and follow up appointments requested.
- Prepare notes and keep admission diary up to date.

Person Specification Experience- Ability to provide cover for other members of the outpatient reception team during periods of annual leave and sickness in order to meet service needs
- Accurate document presentation and attention to detail
- Ability to maintain professional behaviour at all times
- Ability to adapt to different working practices and areas of work
- Basic knowledge of the ward clerk role
- Knowledge of the importance of confidentiality and data protection issues in a healthcare environment
- Experience of working with the general public
- Experience of working with clinical teams
- Experience of working with NHS IT systems
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Ability to demonstrate an interest in the role
- Good keyboard/IT skills with the ability to accurately input data
- Good literacy and numeracy skills
- Good organisational/time management skills with the ability to demonstrate initiative when balancing work demands
- Ability to work in a pressurised working environment with frequent interruptions
- Good communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with patients, relatives and other staff groups
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
