Incumbents in this position are responsible for assisting the ROW/Heavy Construction Supervisor with management duties, and ensuring the crew gets assigned tasks completed in a timely and efficient manner. This position is assigned to pay grade G15.
Responsibilities- Operates heavy equipment (both tracked and rubber-tired).
- Installs, maintains, repairs, cleans and mows right of ways, outfalls, easements, access points, etc.
- Trains and leads crew in all aspects of work assignments.
- Demonstrates the proper use of hand cutting equipment including chainsaws, pole saws, and weed eaters.
- Performs safe operation of a tandem axle dump truck, and a tri-axle road tractor with tri-axle drop.
- Loads, secures, and offloads heavy and light equipment on a seven (7) ton to a fifty-five (55) ton trailer.
- Adheres to OSHA rules/regulations-1926 subpart.
- Reads maps, drawings, diagrams, blueprints, construction drawings, “as built plans”, and survey maps that identify easements and right of ways.
- Places matting for heavy equipment crossings and work platforms in swamps, marshes, ditches and various creek crossings, embankments, etc.
- Preforms repairs on water and sewer, damaged landscape, sod, bushes, trees, grasses, etc.
- Inspects and observes various outfalls for downed trees, washouts, problems with manholes, sewer stops, infiltration, voids in right of ways, debris in manholes, etc.
- Assist with the maintenance and repair of power tools and other equipment.
- Performs inventory/property management.

- This position works in partnership with the Human Resources department to ensure compliance with federal and state employment law.
- Exercises a purchasing authority up to $1,000 without approval from supervisor.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Three (3) years of construction work experience or any related work field.
- Requires a valid State of North Carolina driver's license or ability to readily obtain upon hire.
- Requires North Carolina Class A CDL driver's license or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
- Must be able to obtain Collections 1 certificate within 12 months of hire.
In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.
