Program SummaryK maintains and manages Army prepositioned stocks at the Army Field Support Battalion - Charleston (AFSBn-CHS) land site and aboard ship to include all logistics and maintenance operations. The K APS-3 Program is managed and executed at Goose Creek in support of the Army’s power projection doctrine and resources. The contract provides maintenance of APS-3 stocks (Class II, IIIP, IV, VII, IX) to ensure that unit sets stored aboard marine vessels are configured and maintained at optimal readiness.
K provides limited maintenance and supply support aboard ship to ensure that equipment sets are maintained in a ready condition for emergency download and issue to operating units at the direction of the US Army. K also provides maintenance services and logistical support for other Army programs, IAW individual scope of work contract requirements.
As a Safety Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with safety regulations, conducting investigations, providing training, and maintaining safety documentation. You’ll be responsible for identifying potential hazards and fostering a culture of safety within the organization.
Responsibilities- Report safe work and unsafe work IAW Good Catch and Courage to Care Reporting Systems.
- Provide training and mentorship to field staff and subcontractors on safe work practices and emergency procedures.
- Prepare safety reports, maintain documentation, and track safety performance metrics.
- Establish and facilitate a monthly recurring safety committee.
- Responsible for the workplace and/or project site safety inspections, monitoring, identification, control, and elimination of workplace hazards.
- Provide site safety support on large projects or turnarounds in the Safety, Health, and Environmental areas to prevent and mitigate employee injuries and illnesses.
- Ensure all appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn and used at the job/worksite.
- Implement safe working procedures and practices to maintain safe conditions on the worksite.
- Monitor proper use of tools and equipment, including hazardous materials and waste.
- Report, coordinate, and assist in accident/mishap investigation on the specific job site being monitored.
- Assist in joint safety audits, and report/record identified discrepancies.
- Provide inputs for all safety-related documents and deliverables.
- Perform supplementary tasks and duties essential to contract operations and performance.
- Stay current with industry safety regulations and best practices to ensure continuous improvement.
- Maintain all certifications and training as required.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen with a valid U.S. Passport.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
- Must obtain and maintain local base access.
- Must possess a valid State Driver’s License.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must be a team player with a positive attitude and the ability to adapt to change.
- Must be flexible and willing to work extended hours, nights and weekends as the position requires.
- Must possess an OSHA 10 Hour Certification.
- Must Possess EM 385-1-1-40-Hour-Course Government Construction Safety Certificate or obtain within 6 months after hire at own expense.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in field safety, construction, or general industrial operations.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state safety regulations, specifically 29 CFR 1910.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong public speaking skills.
- Skilled in various Microsoft Office programs, basic skills in Excel and Outlook.
- Must be able to stand - between 4 to 6 hours per day.
- Must be able to walk - between 4 to 5 hours per day.
- Must be able to Lift - up to 35 lbs.
- Must be able to squat, kneel, bend, reach and climb periodically.
- Must be able to work outside and inside in non-climate-controlled environments.
- Must be able to wear all standard PPE.
- One (1) year experience working in a safety program for a military maintenance base.
