Job Summary
The Multilingual Learner (MLL) Teacher supports students whose primary language is not English by providing targeted instruction to develop English language proficiency. The MLL Teacher collaborates with classroom teachers, administrators, and families to ensure students have equitable access to academic content and achieve language and academic success.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct English language instruction aligned with state language proficiency standards
- Support students’ development in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English
- Collaborate with general education teachers to plan and implement effective instructional strategies for MLL students
- Adapt and scaffold curriculum to meet diverse language proficiency levels
- Monitor and assess student progress using formative and summative assessments
- Develop and maintain Individual Language Plans (ILPs) or similar documentation, as required
- Participate in student identification, placement, and reclassification processes
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and language development
- Advocate for multilingual learners and promote inclusive classroom practices
- Maintain accurate student records and comply with federal, state, and district requirements
- Participate in professional development and staff meetings
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, TESOL, Linguistics, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
- Valid teaching certification/licensure with ESL/MLL endorsement (as required by state)
- Knowledge of second language acquisition theories and best practices
- Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse students
- Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
- Bilingual or multilingual proficiency
- Experience with co-teaching or push-in instructional models
- Familiarity with language proficiency assessments (e.g., ACCESS, WIDA)
- Ability to use data to inform instruction
- May work with students individually, in small groups, or within general education classrooms
- Collaboration across grade levels and content areas
- School-based position with regular classroom and meeting responsibilities

This position is classified as Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is in accordance with applicable federal and South Carolina labor laws.
