The Water Distribution Division delivers safe drinking water to customers in the City of Goodyear. Distribution and delivery to customers are achieved through a network of underground pipes called the distribution system. The pipes vary in size from 4 to 30 inches in diameter and convey water from the pumping facility to the customer's tap. The distribution system has approximately 510 miles of main.

The Division is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of all city owned fire hydrants, water mains, service lines, and water meters. This includes the reading of water meters, and utility locating.

Utility Technician I OR II dependent on education, experience and certifications.
Utility Technician I - $21.7975 to 33.1488

Utility Technician II - $26.7478 to $39.7070

The Utility Technician I in Distribution performs semi-skilled work in the operation and maintenance of utility water and reclaimed water transmission and distribution systems. Maintains, monitors, installs, and/or repairs the City's water distribution system, service lines, valves and fire hydrants.

The Utility Technician II - Distribution performs a variety of skilled work to maintain water distribution pipelines and related appurtenances. Performs difficult technical and mechanical work in the operation and maintenance of water distribution and conveyance facilities. May provide direction to peers and subordinates in performance of routine day-to-day work activities.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a minimum of two years working independently with little supervision either by themselves or leading a team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of four years experience maintaining a water distribution system including water meters. They will have a minimum of two years of experience in making decisions in the field maintaining a water distribution system by following Standard Operating Procedures and training others using Standard Operating Procedures.

They will have two years of experience dealing with customers and the public in a customer service environment. The ideal candidate will possess a ADEQ Grade II Water Distribution certificate or reciprocal from another issuing agency, and a Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker endorsement.

  • Adheres to industry and City safety standards, policies, practices, and procedures. Provide services in accordance with government standards such as Bluestake, OSHA, and MAG. Prepares and submit required safety records and reports.
  • Executes routine and emergency operational, maintenance, construction, and repair functions of infrastructure or equipment utilized in the water distribution division. Provides direction and clarifies routine day-to-day priorities in the field. Provides input to supervisors regarding performance reviews for UT I and self.
  • Installs, maintains, replaces, and repairs water mains, water service connections, fire hydrants, valves, water meters and related appurtenances. Notifies customers of water service interruptions in accordance with Public Works policies and procedures. Requests and conducts utility locates in accordance with Arizona’s Blue stakes law.
