The Production Loss Engineer is responsible for identifying and driving the reduction of dairy losses across the production process. They perform site-level mass balance analysis to identify sources of product loss and drive problem solving to implement process improvements to reduce or eliminate losses. They analyze data and identify key initiatives related to plant-wide dairy losses and collaborate with other departments to drive implementation.
Responsibilities- Lead data analysis and data model development to account for dairy losses across the facility
- Partner with Finance to ensure accurate accounting of losses
- Lead cross-functional teams to identify process improvements and drive implementation
- Design and implement innovative ways to track and trend product loss data (bottle weights, scrap, component testing, process optimization)
- Lead problem solving to identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions
- Review and report daily product losses
- Build reports and tools to track and monitor product loss data throughout the plant
- Verify that all CIPS, flushes, processing systems, fillers, etc. limit high solids streams to the drain; ensure processes are monitored and optimized
- Work closely with production and continuous improvement to identify and facilitate product savings activities across the facility
- Bachelor's Degree (Chemical Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or similar discipline preferred) with proven knowledge of process flow and fluid mass balance
- Minimum of 3-5 years of food industry or chemical process related experience
- Proven experience in a manufacturing setting, with a focus on reducing waste and improving sustainability
- Data-driven with ability to analyze and contextualize data
- Continuous improvement mindset including root cause analysis
- Ability to manage projects with cross-functional teams and multiple stakeholders
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; excellent organizational and multi-tasking abilities and comfort with ambiguity in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of computerized information systems used in production, quality assurance, maintenance, and ERP applications
- Ability to understand and utilize engineering drawings, operating manuals, and blueprints
- Strong financial acumen and ability to translate production losses into financial impact
- Aseptic/Dairy experience including UHTs, homogenizers, separators, filtration plants, mixproof valves, motors, pumps
- Ability to update P&, mechanical/electrical prints (CAD/Solid Works preferred)
- Ability to understand and recommend changes to PLC logic

Stands, walks, and sits during completion of job responsibilities - Lifting/Carrying:
Occasional lifting; must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs on occasion - Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-demand production facility
